How Super Journal works

The main pane is always source. A slash starts a clip. Filing appends to a notebook; double-click a locked clip if you need to change that log.

    Write today’s page

    The latest five written days sit above a year / month / day tree. Today is always in that list, even before anything is written.

    Clip with /name

    In a journal, /insights-journal starts a clip when that keyword is registered. Enter keeps writing inside it. In a notebook, / is ordinary text.

  3. 03

    File it, then it stays locked

    Shift+Enter, changing day, or closing the app files the open clip. A filed clip stays locked until you double-click to edit; those edits update the notebook log.

A folder, not a feed

No account

Open the app and write. There is no signup, no sync service, and no profile.

Markdown you can hold

Journals land in Documents/Super Journal/journals/ as YYYY-MM-DD.md. Notebooks live in notebooks/ as <slug>.md. Where your files live

Keywords you name

Three keywords are free. Plus unlocks as many as you need. Renaming a keyword does not rename its notebook file — the folder is a save format, not a live two-way sync.

Notebooks stay put

A notebook opens read-only. Activate editing to change the whole page; leaving it locks it again. Hide log dates if you want the stamp gone. New clips still append at the bottom.

Search the open notebook

Matches highlight in both read-only and edit mode. A miss shows an empty state instead of a blank page.

Double-click a filed clip

Hover says “double click to edit.” While it is open, the page marks it (in Editing). Leave the clip and it locks again.

Where your files live

Installing Super Journal only puts the app on your machine. Your pages are a separate folder of markdown — not next to the installer.

On Windows that is usually C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Super Journal. Paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Super Journal into File Explorer to jump there. On a Mac it is ~/Documents/Super Journal — Open folder in the app reveals it in Finder.

In the app

Open the sidebar and look for Your files. That is the folder on disk. Open folder reveals it in File Explorer or Finder. Change folder points Super Journal somewhere else.

Updates stay put

Close Super Journal, then run a new installer (Windows) or replace the app in Applications (Mac). Program files are replaced; journals stay in Documents/Super Journal or the folder you chose. The app does not move or wipe that folder.

Questions

Where are my files after I install?

By default in Documents/Super Journal, not next to the installer. Days are journals/YYYY-MM-DD.md. The app sidebar lists this under Your files. See the full layout.

How does Plus work without an account?

You pay on this site. Polar emails a license key. Paste it under Keywords in Super Journal. The journal itself still has no signup and no cloud.

What do I get for $4.99/month or $39.99/year?

More than three keywords. The rest of the desk stays the same: today’s page, slash clips, and notebooks on your machine.

How do I cancel or change yearly to monthly?

Use the customer portal from your receipt. Manage subscription

What happens if I cancel?

You keep Super Journal, your pages, and the keywords you already added. Billing and the license live on Polar; manage them from the customer portal.
